Where Our Coffee Comes From - and Why It Matters

Have you ever wondered exactly where the coffee beans you enjoy every time you visit The Bean come from - and why it matters?

Before we opened our doors here at The Bean, we visited approximately 60–70 coffee shops across the Southeast in search of the coffee we wanted to serve. We visited shops in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and even Ohio!

Through a friend, we discovered Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee in Georgia. We soon visited, tasted their coffee, and learned about their mission of collaborative fair trade. Bingo - we had found our winner!

What’s the big deal?

Of course, the taste and quality of the roast matter - but it goes beyond that. Every cup of coffee served at The Bean, from espresso-based drinks like cortados, cappuccinos, lattes, and mochas to cold brew, machine-drip coffee, and Chemex brews, helps make a difference for more than 10,000 coffee farmers in Rwanda, Africa.

The owner of Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee invests in the Rwandan community by helping build wells that provide clean drinking water, medical facilities, and educational facilities. The organization also raises sheep to help provide clothing for coffee-farming families.

So yes, every cup of coffee you purchase from The Bean matters. You are making a difference - not only here in Auburn, Alabama, by supporting our owners and staff and helping build community, but also in Rwanda, Africa.

It’s not just a cup of coffee. That has been our slogan since we opened our doors in 2015.
